Prof. Stephen Anderson February 20th, 2012 The Oscar Niemeyer Museum, found in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil, represents an urban construct with civic aspirations1 that b straddles on Surrealism2. The structures architect, Oscar Niemeyer, is an iconic Brazilian architect who claims to be attached to free-flowing, brutal curves.3 He is known for his free-form modernism and innovative optical effects that are rooted in his love for his Brazilian culture.4 Although faced with political pressure at the time, Niemeyer designed this building in 1967 as the Edificio Castelo Branco, which was a building invented for educational purposes. In 2002, newer parts to the building were added on as Curitiba advanced in economic growth, urban development and sustainability.5 The Oscar Niemeyer Museum is seen as an iconic battlefront in Curitiba. On the exterior, this building focuses on centrality and simpli metropolis with everywhere 30,000 s quare meters of exhibition space, where the windowless horizontal building is complimented by the wide, transmit porches, curving ramps and intricate gardens. The newest and most attention calling facial nerve expression of the building, affectionately deemed the eye, is balanced on a vibrant, yellow(a) pedestal and origins strongly with the practical buildings found in Curitiba. The communication channel between practicality and aesthetics along with the modern advancements of its surrounding city is what drew me to this museum.
